About Wendy
I am a user interface & experience designer who lives & breathes making things intuitive, efficient and aesthetically pleasing.
User interface and experience design is not about form or function - it's about people. Having studied Cognitive Science with a focus on Human Computer Interaction at UC San Diego, I strive to understand and design for the people using the interface.
My love for all things UI started when I was a kid: my parents would tell me stories of how I rearranged all the cans in the cupboard in a categorical order and my father started me off making menus and fliers for local restaurants in Print Shop on his mouse-less orange-and-black screened computer in the early 90s. In high school, I earned a web design internship with a local web hosting company and learned HTML and Photoshop myself.
Cue to post-college, where I've learned a tremendous amount at three start-ups. Being the only designer at an early stage start-up means wearing many hats: UI designer, visual designer, web designer, usability engineer, marketing, product management. These skills have made me capable of taking a product feature from a faint idea to a multi-million dollar or multi-million user generating product. In my current role as User Experience Manager at Ooyala, I lead a team of creatives in charge of everything from Ooyala's branding to website to videos to voice, work side-by-side with the core engineering team to create a smooth and dynamic user experience for video viewers around the globe on everything from mobile phones and laptops to high-definition big screen TVs, and champion UX within the company roadmap.
